This is a cedar chest. Or a chest made out of another type of wood that has a cedar lining. The natural oils in cedar wood are insect repellants. Cedar chests are frequently used to store things for a long period of time. The cedar repels clothes moths. Their larvae eat things made of natural fibers like wool, linen, leather, paper and even fur and feathers. Maybe a cedar chest is used in your house to store winter blankets or sweaters.
