Shreveport sergeant directs Camp Anytown

About 43 high school students will be headed to Camp Anytown next week in Minden – a culturally diverse camp environment where students can learn a lot about themselves and each other.

The camp will be held at Camp Harris in Minden from June 3-8. It is a program where youth learn to develop respect for racial, religious and cultural differences through education for leadership, human relations and citizenship.

The Shreveport Police Department is helping with the program and will offer a workshop on prejudice and discrimination at 7 p.m. Monday.

Sgt. Wendell Delaney of the Shreveport Police Department’s Community Services Unit is the camp director.

Other camp events include a talent show at 7 p.m. Thursday and a workshop on race relations at 1 p.m. Wednesday, which features public speaker Platter Robertson.

Anytown was established in Arizona in 1957 by the National Conference of Christians and Jews (now the National Conference for Community and Justice.) It was founded in order to educate young people in the appreciation and understanding of our pluralistic society. It has been recognized as one of the most comprehensive human relations and leadership programs for youth in America.

Any media outlet is welcome to cover the camp. For specific information or to schedule time for coverage, page Sgt. Delaney at 866-8214.
