At approximately 4:10 p.m. on February 15, 2010, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to a robbery in the 100 block of Southfield Road. Upon arrival, officers contacted an elderly male victim who reported that as he picked up pecans in his front yard, a white male suspect approached him and demanded money. The victim told officers the suspect never displayed a weapon, but did threaten his life. The victim gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash and the suspect fled the scene of the crime.

An hour later, police responded to another robbery report in the 300 block of Levin Lane. Officers contacted an elderly male victim there who advised that a white male suspect had knocked on his door stating he was out of gas. The victim told officers that he was giving the suspect a ride to a gas station when the suspect pulled out a black handgun and demanded money. The victim gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money and the suspect jumped out of the vehicle.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., patrolmen responded to the 600 block of E. Southfield Road relative to an attempted robbery. Upon arrival, officers contacted a female victim who reported that she was in her carport removing groceries from her vehicle when she was approached by a white male suspect armed with a box cutter. “TWIN PARISHES CELEBRATE
NIGHT OUT AGAINST CRIME!”

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

- October 5th 2010-

Neighborhoods throughout Caddo and Bossier Parish are once again being invited to join forces with our neighbors in Texas for the second annual October celebration of National Night Out (NNO) crime and drug prevention event. This marks the 27th year for this event and is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by the cities of Shreveport, Bossier City, Caddo and Bossier Parish. This year’s event will be unlike those in years past, it will be in October, which we hope means, cooler weather thus more participation. The National Association of Town Watch has chosen our neighbors in Texas two years in a row to be the center of a pilot study in the Southern region for holding the annual event in October when, theoretically, the weather was cooler. This may or may not be a permanent change, but for this year we look forward to record turnout.

National Night Out is designed to: (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts; (2) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police ¬community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are orga¬nized and fighting back.

On Tuesday, October 5th, from 6 – 9 PM, residents in neighborhoods throughout Shreveport and Bossier City and both parishes, are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors, emergency response personnel and city officials. Many neighborhoods throughout Caddo and Bossier Parish will be hosting a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, parades, flashlight walks, contests, youth activities and anticrime rallies.

Shreveport residents have participated in NNO for the past 26 years, with a growing number of new block parties every year. Last year Shreveport-Bossier boasted well over 150 registered block parties. Citizens who wish to have their streets blocked off for their parties, will be required to register with the Shreveport Police Department for street closures either on the city’s webpage, the police department’s webpage or by contacting the Public Information Office at 673-6915.
