January 15, 2010 - Local Wrecking Yard Donates Vehicles to Assist with SFD Training

Pipes-U-Pull It form Partnership

U-Pull-It Auto, formerly known as Pipes-U-Pull-It, and the Shreveport Fire Department formed a unique partnership to assist with ongoing training exercises for the Department.

Today, Deputy Fire Chief Tom Self announced that U-Pull-It-Auto has donated two vehicles that will be used in extrication and rescue training exercises this weekend. Fire professionals will be drilled on their efficiency and effectiveness with using highly specialized equipment such as the Jaws of Life equipment, cutters, rams and air bags.

According to Deputy Chief Self, “Training plays a big part in our overall success. We are always ready to work with companies and organizations that are willing to share their resources with the Department. Without this simulated training exercise, firefighters would not be as prepared for major motor vehicle accidents or rapid extrication of patients trapped in wreckage.”

Because of the donations, the SFD has scheduled hands-on training exercises. Approximately 30 firefighters will participate and be evaluated.
