*****UPDATE***** Shreveport Police officer shoots gunman

A man who turned his gun on police after firing shots in a residential neighborhood was shot by an officer this morning.

Just minutes after midnight on January 1, 2010, Shreveport Police officers assigned to a task force to address reports of gunfire were working near Denton St. in Shreveport’s Mooretown neighborhood when they heard several shots being fired. As they responded to investigate, the officers observed a male suspect firing a handgun into the air near the dead-end of the 3800 block of Denton St. The officers, clearly marked as police officers in tactical uniforms, approached the suspect, identified themselves as police officers and ordered him to drop the weapon, at which time he turned and pointed the gun at police. An officer fired two shots, striking the suspect twice, once in the leg and once in the torso. The suspect, identified as 17 year old Rolandereon Marquis Fisher of the 3800 block of Denton St. in Shreveport, was transported to LSUHSC by the Shreveport Fire Department with what have been described as serious injuries. None of the officers were injured.

Detectives were dispatched to the scene and immediately began their investigation. Investigators have seized the handgun Rolandereon Fisher was shooting and have charged him with one count of aggravated assault on a police officer. Fishers’ mug shot is not available at this time as he is still at LSUHSC and has not been processed into the Shreveport City Jail. The investigation is ongoing and Fisher may face other charges.

The officer who fired at the suspect has been placed on routine administrative leave by Police Chief Henry Whitehorn. The officer, who normally works in an undercover capacity, will not be identified as per Shreveport Police Department policy.
