Patrol officer arrests man for firing stolen gun in air A local man has been arrested after a concerned citizen called police to report gunshots being fired in the air.
At approximately 6:40 p.m. on January 1, 2010, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to call from a concerned citizen relative to gunshots being fired in the 600 block of W. 74th St. The caller advised dispatchers that a male suspect had walked out into the yard of a home there on W. 74th St., fired several shots from a handgun into the air and then went back inside the residence. Upon arrival, Cpl. Joshua Pettigrew was able to not only locate the suspect, but also the firearm he used to put the lives of innocent people at risk. Upon further investigation, Cpl. Pettigrew discovered that the weapon used in the crime, a Taurus semi-automatic 9mm. handgun, had been reported stolen out of Natchitoches Parish.
Cpl. Pettigrew booked the suspect, identified as 19 year old Joshua Sinclair Cannon of the 600 block of W. 74th St. in Shreveport, into the Shreveport City Jail on one count each of discharging a firearm in the city limits and illegal possession of a stolen firearm. Officers will be working to return the firearm to its rightful owner.
