Officer injured, suspect at hospital A Shreveport Police officer was checked out by doctors this afternoon and a local man is at LSUHSC following an arrest in Shreveport’s Caddo Heights neighborhood.
At approximately 11:11 a.m. this morning Shreveport Police community liaison officers responded to a call reporting the theft of electricity at a home in the 1500 block of Clover St. Upon arrival officers detained a male suspect, later identified as 27 year old Rodney Calhoun, relative to the theft investigation. Officers discovered that Calhoun had a bench warrant for simple battery outstanding for his arrest and attempted to take him into custody. Calhoun began to violently resist the officers and after a brief struggle, was able to escape. A short time later, a Shreveport Police K-9 unit located Calhoun hiding in the 1400 block of Summers St. and placed him under arrest.
Cpl. Angie Willhite was taken to a local hospital by police supervisors and treated for what has been described as a minor injury to her hand. Rodney Calhoun was transported to LSUHSC by Cpl. Robert Elliott where he is being treated for a dog bite. Calhoun has been charged with the outstanding warrant and one count each of resisting an officer with violence and simple escape. He will be booked into the Shreveport City Jail upon his release from the hospital.
