FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Shreveport child wounded by BB gun

Shreveport Police are investigating the shooting of a child in Cedar Grove last night.

On January 14, 2010, at approximately 11:07 p.m., Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to Schumpert Hospital relative to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers learned that a seven year old male had been brought into the emergency room by his mother with a wound to the abdomen. The child was rushed into surgery.

Detectives were dispatched and immediately began their investigation. Investigators have learned that the victim and two other juveniles, ages 10 and 12, were playing with a BB gun at a residence in the 200 block of W. 73rd St. The 12 year old boy apparently thought the BB gun was unloaded, pointed it at the seven year old and pulled the trigger. The seven year old was struck by one BB in the abdomen. While all information gathered by detectives so far indicates this shooting was accidental, the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with any information regarding this shooting is urged to call Shreveport Police detectives at 318-673-6955 or Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373.
